We work across rural West Africa, implementing community-led solutions

Village Aid – The Peak District’s International Development Charity

In the first place, Village Aid is a small international development charity based in Bakewell. For the moment, we work together with communities in rural West Africa. However, we also provide the tools for people to use to find the best ways to lift themselves up and out of poverty for good. It’s really inspiring stuff!

Meanwhile, through our work, we get to meet some truly wonderful people. This includes Saida.  Saida lives in Tuobodom Village, Ghana and has benefitted from a loan through Village Aid. There are about 52% of Ghanaians who rely on agriculture as their main and often the only source of income. Many are smallholders, barely earning enough to provide for their families. Loans are game-changers for people like Saida and she has been able to use hers to develop and grow her tomato business.

Investing in new products such as fertilizers means she can increase her yields. Also, she has more tomatoes to sell and is, in turn, is able to provide for her family. However, this is just a snippet of the work we do. We also work here in the UK too, delivering a brilliant school program called Hands Up.

None of our innovative and brilliant work could be done without the wonderful people and communities who work together here in the UK to fundraise. From open garden events to walking 129 miles across the UK. There are also concerts to bake sales, from safari suppers to 100-mile bike rides. Furthermore, our supporters have done some pretty incredible things to raise money for communities in rural West Africa. Finally, we would like to thank you so much for your support. Together we can enable people in rural West Africa to forge bright futures. Not only for themselves but for future generations too!
