Buxton Opera House

One of the finest examples of Frank Matcham theatre design, offering a year-round programme of entertainment

Buxton Opera House

Buxton Opera House is one of Britain’s leading receiving theatres, presenting around 450 performances each year including dance, concerts, musicals, drama, comedy, pantomime and opera.

It was lovingly restored to its former glory in 2001, Buxton Opera House is an exquisitely beautiful Edwardian theatre and one of the country’s finest examples of Frank Matcham theatre design.

The Box Office opening hours vary depending on venue and performance times.

Tickets

For special events and festivals, the Box Office will usually be open an hour before the performance for ticket collection and sales.

The Pavilion Arts Centre Box Office is only open for one hour before an event.

There’s no Box Office for the Studio Theatre or events outside our venues so please book your tickets in advance. You can purchase tickets on the door. However, we are unable to accept card payments at the Studio door.

All major credit cards are accepted. Moreover, we don’t charge an additional fee for paying by credit or debit card. We also accept National Theatre Tokens and our own Gift Vouchers.

Visit the Booking Information section for full details.

Theatre Bars

The Opera House has a number of bars serving a wide range of drinks and snacks pre-show and during intervals. The Dress Circle Bar opens at least 45 minutes before a performance so you can relax and enjoy a drink in the sumptuous surroundings of Frank Matcham’s exquisite theatre. The Dress Circle Bar also offers a range of speciality, small-batch Gins, served with matched mixers and garnishes to tickle your taste-buds.

We believe firmly in supporting local businesses, which is why at all of our bars you can find local beers, produced down the road by Thornbridge Brewery as well as light and refreshing sparkling wine from our local winery at Renishaw Hall. We’re also proud to offer delicious artisan chocolates made right here in Derbyshire.

Tea & Coffee

Quality Tea and Coffee can also be bought from all our bars and we pride ourselves in only serving hot drinks that are certified fair trade. If you’re looking for something a little colder, delicious Ice cream can be bought from all levels of the Theatre during the intervals.

At the moment we’re undergoing some exciting changes in our bars. Unfortunately, this means we’re temporarily only able to accept cash.

Should you wish to make your time with us that bit more special, The Dress Circle Bar can be hired for special events or drinks receptions. To find out more, contact venues@boh.org.uk.
