Bakewell Silver Band

Entertaining and competing both locally and nationally to a high standard.

We are the Bakewell Silver Band!

We’re located in the heart of the Peak District and we were established in 1907.`Our roots are in the community and for the most part, we play on Special or Religious Occasions throughout the year. We also host a number of our own concerts around the area.

Bakewell Silver Band also enjoys competitions. We compete several times a year at the second section level. Mostly within the wider Midlands Brass Band Association area.

We are a friendly band with players from all walks of life.  The band is self-funding and is willing to take on musical engagements of all types – please get in contact if you have an event coming up and would like Bakewell Band to play.  Players on holiday in the Peak District are very welcome to attend rehearsals either to listen or play.  With a little notice, the band can loan out most instruments for visitors to use.

Musical Director

Our musical director is Jim Henson. A product and student of the Leicestershire School of Music. Jim started tuba with orchestras, wind bands, and brass quintets. At 15 he became a founder member of the now internationally renowned Youth Brass 2000. Being under the direction of Chris Jeans and Steven Mead. A year later saw Jim join the then championship section band The Ancient Order of Foresters with many prize wins including the French Open.

A member of the world-famous Wallberg band based in Switzerland from 2005-2011, a group of dedicated musicians from local 1st and 2nd section bands with a sprinkling of overseas players who beyond all belief managed to win the Swiss open in 2005.

Over the years Jim has played on many recordings, BBC, CD’s, live broadcasts, TV appearances include  Songs of Praise and Alan Titchmarsh Show.   His conducting debut came in 2015 with Doveholes Band before coming to Bakewell.
