Purely for the joy of singing!

Raise Your Voices is a community choir based in Wirksworth Derbyshire. They were formed in 2010 and meet up every Thursday from 7.15 – 9.15 at The Red Lion in Wirksworth Market Place. Furthermore, you’ll all be made to feel welcome! From novices to the more experienced. There are no auditions and the £4 weekly fee is on a pay as you go basis. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, so you’ll be having some fun. They sing songs which are a cappella and arranged in three and four-part harmonies for Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass. This provides a wonderfully diverse mix of genres from cultures and countries around the world.

Our Choir Leader

Lester Simpson is the leader. He is a renowned singer, songwriter, performer, musician, broadcaster, is director/leader of Raise Your Voices. Not to mention the four other choirs in Derbyshire and Staffordshire. Additionally, he is also a popular leader in singing workshops around the country. Performing professionally with his new quartet Narthen after almost 30 years with his acclaimed a cappella trio Coope Boyes Simpson. Raise Your Voices to perform one or two themed concerts each year. The proceeds from these concerts are often donated to local and chosen charities. These include the likes of Aqua box, The Wirksworth Swimming Pool and the Wirksworth and District Music Lessons Fund, also Médecins Sans Frontières and Help for Heroes. Likewise, every December, Raise Your Voices joins with other local choirs for Christmas carols and other mixed concerts. In addition to this, Raise Your Voices has a major claim to fame. Being the only choir to perform in the BBC drama ‘Marvellous’ which won two BAFTAs, starring Toby Jones as Neil Baldwin whose life story was told and who also made a couple of appearances himself!
